How to Read This

Tier bandsS is 55% or higher. A is 52–55%. B is 50–52%. C is 47–50%. D is below 47%. Factions with few games get a sample-adjusted rate: we add 200 imaginary even games, which pulls the rate toward 50%. Where that moves a faction by a full point or more, the band uses the adjusted rate.
Win ratesWorked out by this site from Listhammer's week-by-week wins and losses, over the latest four weeks. The trend compares that with the four weeks before.
Data filtersOnly singles events count: 2,000 points, five or more rounds, at least 16 players. Mirror matches are removed and only 11th Edition games are included.
Top unitsThese come from WAR FRONT's reading of each faction's recent X-0 and X-1 lists, and can be a week behind the win rates. Units are ranked by how many of those lists include them, with total copies as the tiebreak. Entries marked ≈ come from a slightly wider set of lists. Some factions have only a handful of winning lists, and the dossier shows the count. Photos show hobbyists' own painted models. Where there is no photo yet, an icon shows the unit's battlefield role.
DetachmentsAn army can spend three points on detachments, so many lists take two or three together. Each dossier shows the three most-taken line-ups, the share of that faction's players who took each, and its win rate (greyed when it rests on fewer than 30 games). Matchups show a faction's best and worst opponents among pairings with 30+ games. Both cover the last month of play: Listhammer publishes one weekend at a time, so this site saves each weekend and adds the latest four together. Until four are on file, each dossier says how many it covers.
UpdatesThe numbers refresh twice a week, midweek and on Saturday. Rank arrows compare a faction's place with the previous week's list.
About

Why We Do This

We have been fans of Games Workshop and the Warhammer 40,000 setting since we were children. The grimdark science fiction has always pulled us in, but the wargame itself was much harder to get into, and many of the friends we have tried to bring into the hobby say the same.

So we built this site to make it as easy as possible for new players to get stuck into the competitive side of 40K. We believe that giving people what they need to put a functional, effective army on the table quickly will grow the hobby, and that benefits everyone in it.
